
While the North Face company’s name and logo are inspired by Yosemite’s Half Dome in California, Annapurna II in Nepal offered a more literal choice.
Its summit falls 67 meters shy of the 8,000 meter ‘death zone,’ where oxygen pressure cannot sustain human life. Those 67 meters have likely saved many lives, if only because Annapurna II isn’t admitted into the popular eight-thousander club, which [currently] boasts only 14 members.
