Built in the 8th or 9th century AD, The Chand Baori in India is one of the oldest and deepest stepwells.
It may look familiar, and not just because it’s Escheresque. The design has inspired several films, two of which being The Dark Knight Rises, which recreated it on a stage, and The Fall, a favorite of mine, which shot on location.
